I AM MANY
Hey, y’all! Happy Saturday!
I’ve been so busy with this semester and the deadlines for assignments, quizzes and exams are constantly being piled up on my to-do list. I haven’t been able to be as consistent with my blog and social media as I wanted to be, but this weekend I decided to make some time to catch up. And it makes me feel so damn happy and accomplished!
I was inspired to write this post after my sister posted a similar blog post, who was inspired by Lauren Conrad’s Instagram post. There’s this “I AM MANY” movement going around to spread female empowerment, and I felt passionate enough to jump on the bandwagon!
I am proud to be a woman. I’ve always loved being a woman, more specifically a daughter of God. I grew up around strong women like my mom and my sister and I’ve never felt discriminated for my gender. However, I have heard of many stories about sexism which breaks my heart. And I am very aware, especially in our current society, that sexism is a huge problem that hasn’t been quite resolved. There are still existing people who think women are unqualified, unintelligent, or better off “in the kitchen”. I do think as women we need to feel empowered and encouraged to do whatever we want despite gender differences. Society can’t hold anyone back from the dreams they desire to accomplish. Female empowerment is so unique and amazing. We need more of it, which is why this movement is growing at the perfect time!
Though to be honest, I don’t really describe myself as a feminist. Of course I’m all for women’s rights and gender equality, but I’ve never defined myself as an activist for feminism. One of my favorite girl power quotes comes from Evangeline Lilly who once stated, "I'm very proud of being a woman, and as a woman, I don't even like the word feminism because when I hear that word, I associate it with women trying to pretend to be men, and I'm not interested in trying to pretend to be a man." I totally relate to that quote and I agree with that idea. I love being a female for my own reasons. I don’t want to pretend to be a man in order to fulfill specific goals. That would make me not being true to myself. I think the whole idea of women trying to make men the “new minority group” is overexaggerated and ridiculous. Women are already born to be powerful because God created them equally like men. There’s no better or more stronger gender.
So with that being said, here is my “I AM MANY” statement!
I AM MANY:
Daughter
Sister
Friend
Leader
Student
Blogger
Fashionista
Wanderer
Animal Lover (especially dogs)
Creator
Adventurer
Advocate
Dreamer
Entreprenuer
Believer
Warrior
See what I mean? We ALL are many things and that’s what makes us unique individual women. Not only should we stand up to society when it turns us down, but we should embrace the gifts God has blessed each of us with and use them to prove them wrong. We are all His princesses, and we are all precious gems shining on Earth. God has a purpose for all women and He’s all for female empowerment. Just like Rosie the Riveter once stated, “We CAN do this!”
