9 Non-Scary Movies to Watch for Halloween

Does anyone love watching scary movies to celebrate Halloween and actually enjoy getting scared? Because I don’t … AT ALL 😂 Anytime a friend or relative even mentions the idea of watching one, I would much rather go to bed early or sit in my room alone and watch funny and lighthearted content, lol. Honestly, you couldn’t even pay me to watch a horror film because I will have nightmares for at least two years!

Since I mentioned my disliking of scary movies, you probably wouldn’t be surprised to know that Halloween is not one of my favorite holidays, despite how much I love fall. However, just because it’s not my favorite holiday does not mean I won’t celebrate it. I just prefer the cute and lighthearted spooky things over the gorey and monstrous things!

So if you’re anything like me and still want to get in the Halloween spirit, grab a cup of hot apple cider or a glass of wine (if you’re 21 or older!) and some of these favorite spooky yet family-friendly movies!

Halloweentown

As a late 90s/early 2000’s kid who grew up during Disney Channel’s prime time, this one is definitely the perfect cult-classic for spooky season in my book! It’s so timeless, nostalgic, and family-friendly so that no one is left out. St. Helens in Oregon, where the original was filmed, transforms into the actual location every Halloween, which is something I’m definitely praying to see in-person myself one day!

Hocus Pocus

Another one of Disney’s beloved Halloween films! I’m not actually the biggest fan of this movie unlike most people, but I’m definitely not gonna say no if someone suggests watching it! Especially if it’s between that or a horror movie 😂

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

As a big Harry Potter fan, this is for sure a must-watch on my list, as well as reading the book which has its own chapter dedicated to Halloween!

It’s the Great Big Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Honestly if you didn’t watch this at least once in your youthful years, did you even have a childhood?

Monsters, Inc.

Even though it’s not necessarily a Halloween movie per say, it’s good enough to watch with the whole family for the holiday!

Ghostbusters

Not gonna lie, this movie did scare me when I was a little kid 😂 But now I definitely am not opposed to watching it as an adult, and I actually enjoy it since it’s more of a comedy than a scary movie. Besides, what horror films have their own catchy theme song? There’s also a brand new Ghostbusters movie coming out right before Thanksgiving (and a lot of the OG actors are coming back for it!), so you can get ready by watching the first two for Halloween!

Twitches

Another Disney Channel classic. Anything starring the Mowry twins is bound to be magical!

The Legend of Sleepy Hallow (Disney version)

Though it’s not a full-length movie but rather a segment from Walt Disney’s 1949 package film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, this is definitely a fun one to watch during spooky season. Bing Crosby’s version of “The Headless Horseman” is so timeless and catchy!

Tyler Perry’s Madea Halloween

If you need something more along the lines of humorous over horrifying along with Ghostbusters, this recent movie is definitely the perfect comedy to help you laugh out loud than scream in terror!
